Background:
Serena was born the only child of Jacob and Hope Turner who ran a seafood restaurant in Bristol, a port city in the southwest of England. When she was still a child, Jacob and Hope knew that Serena was special and different from other children. However, it was when she made it “snow” in the middle of July that they realized just how special Serena truly was. She was just 8 years old at the time. Her parents thought they could handle her powers, but when she caused all the books to fly off a shelf while having a tantrum, they knew that they needed help. A friend of theirs had heard about a special school in America that took care of “gifted” children, such as Serena, and they contacted Charles Xavier. Charles and Dr. McCoy flew over to meet Serena and decided to take her back to New York with them.

Serena spent the next few years at the mansion trying to understand and hone her powers. However, her abilities proved to be too much for even Charles to handle and soon caught the attention of Doctor Strange, Master of the Mythic Arts and Sorcerer Supreme. He decided to take Serena into his guardianship and help her realize the full potential of her abilities, while also teaching her how to control them. He feared that without his guidance that she would become a danger to the world. And so the New York Sanctum became her new home.

For years, Serena lived with and learned from Doctor Strange. He was a tough, yet fair teacher, who saw and unlocked Serena’s true potential. He celebrated her successes, and helped her learn from her mistakes. She traveled the world with him and he grew to see her as a daughter. However, as she got older, Serena wanted to not just learn how to use her powers, but to use them for good. She got an opportunity when the Avengers were battling the Mandarin right on Bleeker Street. She rushed out and actually ended up saving Isabella’s life. The team was impressed and they invited her to join the team. Strange was not entirely happy with this, as he felt Serena’s training wasn’t complete due to the strength of her powers, but he cared about Serena’s happiness and so he let her go. However, he has continued to watch over her, even after she became an official member of the Avengers’ team.
